Mormon, as he makes a single volume of all the records at his disposal, particularly took the previous writings because of their high quality and their spiritual messages.

WM 7-11

wise purpose...........................................................a smart decision
Spirit........................................................................was particularly prompted to choose them
for my brethern.........................................................sees them as a means of gaining testimonies
to finish...................................................................the remainder are also choices from many

false Christs......................................................Benjamin had to deal with false spiritual leaders
with assistance....................................................the king worked with prophets to establish truth
righteous................................................................took position serious and taught the truth
peace.....................................................................took work to bring the country to a unity of purpose

A preface precede the subsequent book of Mosiah by explaining how the first King Benjamin labored hard against dissenting voices to establish the Nephite religion and to ensure peace both internally and externally in his kingdom.
