2 Nephi 27

2 Nephi 27: 1-5

day of the Gentiles.......................................................a people drunken with abominations
in that day..................................................................great storms to test the Gentiles
dream of the night.........................................................anyone who challenges Zion destroyed fast
drunken....................................................................a state of the peoples, unable to reason at all
spirit of sleep............................................................the people are out of touch with reality. To fail

If one tries to find logic in the behaviors of nations of the Gentiles, one will be hard pressed.  The wickedness and evil that underlies the nations' acts will seem totally absurd, like a drunken man.  Those things that are against the righteous desires of the Lord will be destroyed, even if it means the loss of whole nations.

2 Nephi 27: 6-20

book...................................................................book.  Emergence of the Book of Mormon
protected...................................................................the book is not a possession of the wicked

a little while.............................................................the Lord is acting quite fast, even if man doesn't see it.
deaf and blind........................................................books purpose:  remove blindness and dull
meek increase.............................................................effect:  to promote faithful behavior
cut off........................................................................those who reject the premise are not holy
snare.......................................................................those who counter act are devious and evil
not ashamed...........................................................the Lord promises to help the faithful
understanding................................................................the Spirit will elevated the simple believer
doctrine..................................................................the complaints of the humble will be vindicated and replaced with eternal hope

Reasons why the Lord will bring the Book of Mormon in such a "mystical" manner.

2 Nephi 26

Due to the over-reliance of men to ideas in the European cultures, the Lord intends to establish the Book of Mormon, and His gospel, in a much more spiritual manner.  Those who would tamper with His methods will be exposed as aiding to establish and promote evil and wicked systems; whereas, His methods will be divine and remain protected for the purpose of publishing to the world, and more importantly, to save people.

At the given time, the Lord will begin his work by giving the Gentiles the opportunity of accepting the gospel. The effect of the acceptance will result in a serious reversal of the wicked machinations of the evil one.

1 Nephi 14: 5-17

repenteth.................................................the blessings of Israel go to the accepting Gentiles

Nephi prophecies about the nature of the teachings of the Gentiles.  The result will be disastrous, enveloping the whole world in warfare and great calamity.  The saints will flourish, but will be much smaller in numbers.  They will be upheld by divine assistance.

1 Nephi 14: 18-30

on of the 12............................................a special message from the great apostle
will write....................................................John will write down an apocalyptic message to the people

what he saw and wrote...............................Nephi sees in vision the same things as John in the Bible
shalt not write.....................................Nephi may see it, but he is not to write any more
small part...............................................Nephi writes only what he is allowed, what his father say, not what John saw
make an end.............................................Nephi deeply affected by the vision.  Vision ends, but not where the record ends

The Lord gives Nephi a great vision about the future, but he withholds what he saw by commandment.  That message was given to John, and the current people have it from the the Eastern book, the Bible.

1 Nephi 14

Nephi is given a great vision of the future, and he sees our day.  He sees the big picture of the Gentiles, their divisions, the rising of the latter-day church, and the ultimate battles that will be waged.

praise of the world.............................................their ideology promotes the worldly, not the sacred

At the opening of the latter-day times, the Gentiles ascend to world dominance.  Among them will by an assortment of different kinds of kingdoms and governances.  One thing they will have in common is a strong wicked association with worldly, sinful world control.  The ideologies will be worldly and will be very oppressive to those who wish to follow Christ.

The latter-day future will show the Gentiles deeply divided.  The new nations of the Americas will have God's favor and will help the Lord to oppose the abominable doctrines of the old world.  The energizing force will be the Bible, a sacred book that will be prevalent among the peoples, but it will also demonstrate some of the evil workings of the great and abominable church with its manipulations of the text.

The effect of the latter-day work will begin with the publishing and acceptance of the concepts with the Bible and the Book of Mormon, working in unison to strengthen true doctrine and to increase the faith of good people.  It will begin with the Gentiles as promised and move to the House of Israel.

1 Nephi 13

This chapter is a divine plan to raise good, god-fearing people for the last days.  The Lord will lead Gentiles to relocate to the Americas where he will strengthen them, free them, and then allow them to reestablish his church on the earth, as a counter force to take on the great and abominable church of the Gentiles.  This church of the gentiles is a term used loosely to describe the inner and evil core of the gentile world that seeks its own selfish interest and is based on worldly and wicked pursuits.

1 Nephi 3

1 Nephi 3: 1-4

speaking in the tent..............................Nephi has a private conversation with his father
Lord has commanded........................Nephi learns that he has duty assigned to him

murmur hard thing.............................the brothers do not want to go, consider it impossible or unlikely
commandment.................................they misunderstand--that it is not a request but a divine commandment
favored....................................divine assistance, because the attitude is correct

Nephi's reception of the commandment contrasts dramatically with his brothers' negative complaining attitudes.  Lehi believes that those who faithfully fulfill assignments receive divine help

1 Nephi 3:  7-8

will prepare a way..................the Lord does not ask servants to do impossible things
exceedingly glad......................Lehi feels assurance.  His son eases his mind and demonstrates faith.

Occasionally the Lord manifests the faith of others through the spirit.  We can know that we have reached through.

The first attempt does not succeed.  Laman wants to stop the mission immediately.

wisdom in God.........................He who knows all wants the family to have the record.
prophets and Spirit......................the record will establish the family

1 Nephi 3: 21-27

The older brothers do not like the mission.  They see the whole affair to be worthless.  They see the ruination of the family wealth and the deceit of Laban as too difficult.  They are abusive and infuriated.  Nephi stands his ground

1 Nephi 3

This chapter illustrates the mission and the initial attempts to accomplish it.  It does not simply come to them.  They go from bad to worse, and their resolve is deeply tested.  Faithful people will seek new ways to accomplish their missions, and if determined will find a way.
